How Much Water Should we Drink a Day. What are the Benefits of Dinking Water. Factors that Influence Water Needs.

Drinking Water

How many water should I drink each day? It's a simple question with no easy answer.

The body is about 60% water (two third of our body), give or take.
We are certainly losing water from our body it may be via urine and sweat. To prevent losing water, which is dehydration, we need to drink sufficient amount of water each day.

How much water we should be drinking each and every day

On this, different people have different idea(opinions).

Some says we should be drinking water constantly throughout the day even if we are not actually thirsty.

Health Authorities usually recommend we should drink 8-ounces glasses, which is equals about 2-liters, or half gallon. This is call 8×8 rules and it is enough easy to remember I think.

As of my view, this depends on individual. Many factors both internal and external, ultimately effect our needs of water.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, i.e — a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.

Factors that Influence Water Needs

You might need to modify your total fluid intake based on several factors:
  • Exercise. If you do any activity that makes you sweat, you need to drink extra water to cover the fluid loss. It's important to drink water before, during and after a workout. If exercise is intense and lasts more than an hour, a sports drink can replace minerals in your blood (electrolytes) lost through sweat.
  • Environment. Hot or humid weather can make you sweat and requires additional fluid intake. Dehydration also can occur at high altitudes.
  • Overall health. Your body loses fluids when you have a fever, vomiting or diarrhea. Drink more water or follow a doctor's recommendation to drink oral rehydration solutions. Other conditions that might require increased fluid intake include bladder infections and urinary tract stones.
  • Pregnancy or breast-feeding. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding need additional fluids to stay hydrated. The Office on Women's Health recommends that pregnant women drink about 10 cups (2.4 liters) of fluids daily and women who breast-feed consume about 13 cups (3.1 liters) of fluids a day.

Now finally, it comes to

How much Water Should We Drink Per Day

No one can tell you exactly how much water you need. This depends on the individual.
Some people may function better with more water than usual, while for others it only results in more frequent trips to the bathroom.

So let's keep things Simple with what I think I mean bellow guidelines.

  1. When you’re thirsty, drink.
  2. When you’re not thirsty anymore, stop.
  3. During high heat and exercise, make sure to drink enough to compensate for the lost fluids.
  4. That’s it!
